Vector art question

I was trying to do an inlay in wood using some vector artwork I had on hand, but wanted to vector cut the image out instead of just creating an oval around the image and cutting that out. Can this be done? say for example it was an image of a bird, can I somehow create a thin line around the bird that will hug the shape and then vector cut that out after sizing the image to meet my design needs.

Yes you can. If the outside line of your bird is solid, click on it then go to create contour. That is one way to do it. I know there are a couple other ways but that is how I do it.

Try "Create Boundary".....I think under the Effects Menu.
