a tree in a walnut door

this was a pretty cool project. this is a sliding door out of some really nice walnut. the door is 50" wide and 90" tall. 8/4 stock. it is a bit hard to see but the tree will be filled in with colored epoxy.
there is a side panel that has some of the top of the tree on it. I don't know what color epoxy will be.
this was a scary project with such expensive wood and no room for mistakes.

The reason I got my cnc machine was to do carvings in doors.
You are living my dream..
Can you share what software and bits you used also time spent on the machine carving?

I agree it will be cool both ways. but the flats are nto clean I have a large stepover on the v bit to save time.

I did not do the artwork it was just a vector file. my drawing skills are pathetic when it comes to creativity.
but it took some effort to edit the file to fit the door. I used vcarve pro for the work. I used a 1/2" straight bit at 3ips to do the flats then a 90 v bit at the same speed for the vcarving. since the surface gets removed when it is leveled after the epoxy I can get away with faster cutting. also I have a large stepover on both bits to save time since a flat base does not need to be super smooth.

Having lived in Oregon for a short time . . . I would think it would be easy to recruit some "artistic talent" . . . . myself, a stick man with fingers is a feat . . .

The door is very nice . . . sure gets away from the Lowe's / Home Depot look . . . I'm sure that door is worth many times more that prior to your work . . .

I do not have a CNC unit yet, so you might say I'm lurking to glean info for that day when I do . . .about July . . . . in the meantime, I will look and appreciate . . .:)

here is a vcarved panel of the tree. I just had to do it. took about a hour to cut I used a 60 degree v and a 1/8" endmill for the flats.
