Planing question

I need to make some 8/4 out of 4/4 material(Walnut) now for saving time I am gonna run them through the planer but before I glue them together I was going to plane the faces by hand. My planes are all type 9 Bailey's in a #3,#4,#5 and a #8. Which in your opinion would give me the best overall glue up finish on pieces 6" wide by about 3' long?

I have quite a bit 4/4 and no 8/4 and I hate to go and buy it when I can use what I already have.

Done properly, the #8 will give you the flattest face.

Thats actually what I was leaning towards and use very very fine cuts.
