Here is a maple plate I made. It is 11" across. It is finished with Minwax Antique Oil then buffed. I have 3 more to make then after 30 days to cure will be put into service at my table according to the LOML.

Bernie, how thick was the stock that you turned that from?

The figure is nice without being overpowering.

Jake that was 8/4 stock already kiln dried. I found a piece at Beautiful Woods in Denver and he gave me a pretty good price. I figured it was 48" long plus the only one he had in that size and said he hadn't sold it for quite a while. I jumped on it because it would make a set of 4 plates.

Dewy and Bill when the other 3 are done they will be dinner plates according to SWMBO.

Bernie,
Great wood and a super plate! Do you intend to eat directly from them or use them as chargers to hold ceramic/china plates? Either way, they will be a nice set!

Thanks for the kind comments. When I saw the board 8/4 stock I knew it was going to make some nice plates. I am hoping to complete the others this weekend and next depending on time.

Ted theses plates are going to be eaten off of. I have a cereal bowl with Antique Oil I have eaten out of now for over a year and still looks good. I had several e-mails back and forth with Ernie Conover. That is the only finish he uses on all his utility stuff.

Bob I grew up in Atwood just north of Colby. I left Atwood in 1965 to school, military and in 1975 landed in Goodland. I remember high school football and wrestling at Oakley.

Beautiful plate Bernie. I don't think that I could cut up a steak on one. They are just to pretty to scratch up.

Bernie, That is wonderful! The curl and color of the plate are perfect! You may never want to use them for fear of covering up the beauty!

Very nice,

Jeff
