I have some wooden boxes that could use some laser engraving but they are 5.1" tall is this practical? how good can woods like padouk and purpleheart and walnut be engraved?

I am nowhere near Portland (upstate NY where it was -22 this morning! - bet that will keep the tube cool!).

I've done both purpleheart and Paduk - both laser almost BLACK against the wood. I'm sure there are numerous members in the great state of Washington and they are probably a whole lot warmer than I!

I have lasered all three of those woods, with very nice results.. I have a customer that makes custom wood planes from purpleheart, and I engrave the logos, and/or presentation information on them for him. It always comes out quite nice..
