Bowling Ally Maple slabs

Question: Has anyone out there used maple or yellow pine slabs from a bowling ally lane for a benchtop? If so, are you happy with it? Would you recommend it?

Nevermind - I did a search and found plenty of other threads on the subject. Nails holding the slabs together - that sort of scares me off, as I want to put holes in for dogs.

I have read of some that have used them and were happy, but the majority of folks have complained about the number of nails in the wood and the fear of hitting more if they flatten the top again.

If you can avoid or get the nails out you might be ok, but the same folks that complained about the nails, most of them said they wouldn't do it again. Do a search on "bowling", will bring up plenty on SMC.
