Black Walnut cut from the backyard. Got tired of the walnut's and leaf stems in the pool so I decided to make it a turning stockpile. This vase is from near the top of the tree just prior to the main stem branching out. Measures 8X5 with many coats of wipe on poly wet sanded between coats and buffed out. Has a bit more sap wood than I would like but it is what it is...Bill..

Beautiful. That must be a lot of coats of wipe-on poly!

How long did you have to season the blank from the time you cut it down until you turned the vase?

I agree with Gary - Very Elegant. Is this a gift or going up for sale?

William, With all the new posts lately you must never go to bed!! This one is really fine! The richness of the walnut and the high gloss of the finish look HIGH CLASS MANSION ready! Find some movie stars that need some new pieces for their 10mil home and you can set yourself up for life!

Great works of art!! Keep up the great work!

It has 6 coats of minwax gloss wipe on poly. I cut this down on July 4 of 08. Was stored outside and still a bit wet when hollowing. It was going to the little "art" store that was selling my turnings but just got a check and letter from the owner and she is closing her doors. Darn Darn Darn! I had saved almost 10% towards a Mustard Monster too. Guess I will have to pound the bricks and look for a new place now. I don't ask much $$ when selling these because I just want to sell them off. Either that or build a newplace with room to store them all and I don't want that. I've been looking at Esty on the web and may try them. I've tried on eBay but most of those folks want "give aways" andif I'm going to give it away I'd rather give to someonme I know...Bill...
