I mentioned that I bought some tools from an estate sale recently (woodworker passed away). I'm just cleaning up a brace I bought and found that it's marked "Millers Falls Co, Millers Falls, Mass", plus "No. 82", plus two patent dates - Jan 14, 1868, and Jan 1x, 18x1 (where the x's are unreadable numbers). The second date could be 1871.

Anyone know old Millers Falls braces? Is this an unusual tool, or are these old braces a dime a dozen?

When I am curious about braces and other tools, this is one of the places I look.

There is a link to the Miller Falls pages, but it does not say a whole lot about the #82.

Thanks, everyone, for your pointers. After researching it, I believe the brace was made between 1896 and 1902.

BTW, how the heck did they get the crank handle on the brace? Was it put on before the rod was bent into a crank shape? I can't see any way to get them on other than that.
