I've been looking around at the rustic/mexican furniture and it seems that most of it is 1/4" inch, not 1/2" that I would have suspected.
What I will be building is similar to this:

Would 1/4" be safe w/ the proper framing?
I know pine isn't the best wood but it's what the customer wants and they understand the potential issues w/ it. Is there a particular pine that would work better than others for this? There is a local mill here I can pick up pine, I'm guessing it's pondrosa?
