This is a piece of black walnut that I turned over the holidays. It has a unique grain pattern, that to me resembles a horse in motion. If you look at the bottom side you'll notice the spiral effect on the foot which happened truly by accident, but looks pretty cool, so I left it that way. It measures 11" across by 7/8" tall. I'm really amazed sometimes at the wonders around us when we slow down enough to notice. (I know that sounds corny but it's true) Thanks............Tony

Tony,
That is a great platter and the grain really jumps out at you. Walnut is such a great wood to work with. This must have been a piece of crotch wood, looks like it anyways.
Nice job, you let the wood really show itself.

I've had the tune "Ghost Riders in the Sky" stuck in my head for a week...this platter does not help me get over that at all. :D

Great looking platter, one never knows what mother nature has in store for you, until you start cutting into one of her master pieces. Very neat!!

Thanks for the compliments guys, and to David for giving me the name idea. On second notice it does look like more than one horse running with ghostly figures mounted on them..........Tony
