what do you use to burnish your card scrapers? and what is the Rockwell hardness rating of your burnisher, if you know it.

Rich,
Don't get caught up on this!!!!

Steve Latta uses the back of a chisel for goodness sake!

The cleanest phillips screwdriver I can find in the drawer. Maybe a drill bit shank or the rounded portion of a chisel, etc.

A real burnisher would be handy but isn't high on my to buy list at this time.

I use the Lee Valley Tri Burnisher (http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&p=32642&cat=1,310,41070). Easy to use on the straight and curved version of card scrapers.

I use an old Buck Brothers burnisher like the one shown here:

Keep an eye out at tool swap meets and antique shops. I've found three of them, each a different size, each under $5.00.

I made a handle for a 1/4" solid carbide router bit that the tip broke off. Works great.

The Glen-Drake burnisher is flat on one side, rounded on the edges, and is a fine file on the other flat. Having one tool that does multi functions sometimes is handy.
I like mine a lot. It is costly but if I lost it, I would buy another Glen-Drake. No question or hesitation.

I made mine out of an old worn out, small 4 square file. Ground and polished on three sides. Works great.

I purchased a Crown burnisher. Chris Schwarz thinks it is not worth much, but it works for me.

I have used files and screw drivers as well. The crown works better than those IME. Problem with those is that you never know how hard they are until you try them out. Also a lot of screw drivers are chrome plated or shot peened.
