Howdy folks
Earlier this spring I happened to mention that I was woking on a blanket chest.
It would have "fancy" rails and stiles etc.
So here are some photos of "fancy".
The panel is dry fitted to check for clearance and slip.
I had to figure out how I was going to get this panel together with only two hands and a sledge hammer. Decided to allow for clearances.
Now today will be devoted to staining the raised panels. Ahhh! another dilemma - end grain sucks up stain like crazy. Been thinking about this, wil try powdered dye in BLO and sanding sealer and shellac. The client said to make it dark, make it darker, make it darkest, make it DARK - you hear me, dark. So am going to try walnut colored dry powder. On some test pieces of red oak, of course.
