Hello folks
The end table/desk was started by "the boss" when she forced me to go to the salvage yard with her to look for "good stuff" last year.
We found this thing that looked like the divider that you might find in front of the first church pew made out of white oak.
So decided to make an end table or room divider out of it. Book shelf type thing.
Raised portion is large enough to hold a lamp base. Dressed it up with a new top board and side moldings. Also left it loose so that if you were to pick up the piece by this, it would slip off - dummy! You lift a heavy table by the shelves or under the base.
Then it sold and the client wanted a writing surface attached that would fold down.
Hmmmmm! what to use for a writing surface - how about cherry?
And the client had some Honey Locust so used those for the breadboard edge.
Now how to hold up the writing surface?
Used a screw in the slide and a slot in the frame to prevent the slide from coming out in your hands. It look like a black dot in the photo under the frame. Yes! there is a frame on both sides.
Don't ask about the lack of removing the residual white paint. "Folks llike it left that way", she said.
Well in the photos maybe you can see what I did.

Jim Becker - That's tough - there are so many ins and outs but here goes
Long = 26 inches
Depth = 13 inches on one side and 16 inches on other
Height = 30 inches
With writing surface up - Depth = 27 inches on one side and 30-3/4 inches on other
Top raised surface = 6-1/2 by 11-1/2 inches by 2 inches high.
Now the inside dimensions are commensurate.
The depth inside on one side is deeper than the other, the photo shows the deeper end.
