Wood (at least baltic birch and birch endgrain) slurps up epoxy squeeze out which would lead to finishing problems if I was staining.

Should I use a sanding sealer (dewaxed shellac - Zinsser seal coat) on the exposed surfaces before sticking pieces together?

Do I need to worry about warping if I only coat the outside of my piece where I care about squeeze-out? I once applied several coats of polyurethane to a piece of 1/4" ply before I glued it on and the corners curled up when I did that?

I've never tried using a seal coat to keep epoxy out; PVC tape works well and is what I use.

I think the answer is yes on the curling from coating one side; I think that's due to moisture and sealing one side means moisture can only enter and leave the wood on the unsealed side.
