Wood (at least baltic birch and birch endgrain) slurps up epoxy squeeze out which would lead to finishing problems if I was staining.

Should I use a sanding sealer (dewaxed shellac - Zinsser seal coat) on the exposed surfaces before sticking pieces together?

Do I need to worry about warping if I only coat the outside of my piece where I care about squeeze-out? I once applied several coats of polyurethane to a piece of 1/4" ply before I glued it on and the corners curled up when I did that?

I used epoxy to glue up my workbench but also as a finish as well. I wanted to keep the faces of the vise jaws epoxy-free though. So I used clear packing tape to mask them off and trimmed the edges flush with a razor blade. After the epoxy cured I just peeled the tape along with any epoxy that had run down over from the edges. I dont know why you couldn't do the same thing to the ply edges before glue-up.
