Hi everyone.

I just finished my kid's play table.

Some of you might know about this from the finishing forum. This was the first time I used brightly colored dyes in sprayed water-based laquer. I think it turned out OK--it looks very different at various times of day. I like that the grain patterns still shows through.

The tabletop's sides are dadoed and just slip around the table top, dovetailed in the corners. Eventually, when Ray outgrows it as a play table, I can knock the sides off and he'll have a funky colored coffee table.

The table was built to hold a play mat I purchased. Next I'll build a bunch of houses for this scene.

Of course, the real test:

Very nice. This will be one of the most used pieces of furniture you will have built. Cars, Thomas trains, Legos, Rescue Heroes, Transformers... maybe even their coffee table in their first apartment someday!

Way cool, Narayan!

Why can't we adults have brightly-colored stuff too?!

Great stuff and I wouldn't be concerned about the loud colors... kids eat bright colors up and this is for kids. Walk in any day care center and see how much traditional finishes you find. It didn't get there by accident.:)

Sarge..

Oh, no concerns here about the colors. They're less loud in most lighting than these pics would suggest.

The adult furniture gets the clear finishes. The kid furniture gets the colors. :)

That's a great table, nice job. Also saves wear and tear on the coffe table.
