View Full Version : Best Way To Sand Ipe

After five years of being spoiled by the flatness, straightness and width of MDF sheets, I've embarked on building a patio table out of ipe.

Man, is this stuff hard!

I've got 74 individual, milled pieces that will go together to form two eight-foot long benches and a nine-foot long table.

74 pieces times four surfaces.....

I plan on using my VS ROS but.... what's the best routine? What grits do you recommend I start with? Up to what final grit? By what progression?

I would not use anything rougher than a 150 grit. Ipe is pretty smooth to begin with. I applied a finish to a sample I carry around after a light sanding with 220 only.
