I thought I had posted this request yesterday but I can't find it. So I will post it again. I am finishing up building a bunk bed for my grand sons. Wood is pine. I am looking for recommendations as to what finish to use. Your experience please. Thanks in advance.

Alfred, I work with pine every day in my business. I use Ace Hardware's premium stains. It is an oil base stain so it will soak very deep. I let this dry for a minimum of 36 hours. Then I spray 3 coats of water based acrylic polyurethane. I have my poly shipped from Florida. Coronado is the manufacturer. But Min Wax or Benjamin Moore, Etc. will work just as good. If you don't plan on using stain, but using a clear coat, I like to apply a light coat of Bennie Moore Natural Wood stain. It has no color pigment in it, but will help prevent blotching. The one thing I will say when using pine, your finish is all in the sanding. #120, #150 #220. Unless you are looking for an antique look, be sure your sander has a stiff pad, or you have a tendency of taking more out between the grain. Hope this helps, Reed

If you are going to paint the pine be sure to seal it first with a coat of shellac otherwise the knots will bleed through the finish color over time.
