Hi:

Does anyone know of a good FREE software program to build websites? I need software that would be easy to use with windows xp.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob,

Though not 'free', most Windows users have a copy of Microsoft Office installed. In a pinch, you can always use MS Word and Save As HTML. You also might look to see if you have FrontPage Light installed.

There are literally hundreds of FREE HTML editors on the Internet-- there is also another thread related to this, so a quick search should be able to find it.

I would do a search on www.google.com (http://www.google.com) for "free html editor", and give some a whirl.

Where are you going to host your web site? I ask because many hosts who are serving the low-cost/personal market offer software to help make simple web site. For instance, check out Geocities (http://geocities.sbc.yahoo.com/) or Tripod (http://www.tripod.lycos.com/host)

Aaron's right about Front Page Express, but I don't think they included it with recent versions of Windows. I'm sure XP doesn't have it, and pretty sure Windows ME doesn't either.

Another thing you can try is going to http://www.download.com/3150-2048-0.html?tag=dir This has a full directory of HTML editors listed, and at the bottom of the page you can filter the list to show only programs that are completely free to use. You can then filter them by user rating. Generally a widely accepted program with many votes is a good general use program. All a matter of personal taste though.

Good luck!
