Well folks, I got the day off today so I was abel to get started on a grain mill project.(With water wheel.Last weekend I planed some of the reclaimed cedar (from power poles) and it is beautifol wood. Started by cutting out the spoke and wheel segments.http://www.sawmillcreek.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=7964&stc=1

The rim segments are half lapped so I came up with a modification to my pannel cutterhttp://www.sawmillcreek.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=7965&stc=1

And finally glued and screwed the segments together. Used poly glue and actually remembered to ware rubber gloves. Will update as things progresshttp://www.sawmillcreek.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=7966&stc=1

Cool stuff, David. I'm curious on your thoughts for using arched pieces first as opposed to straight pieces and then cutting out the circle later (most easily done on a bandsaw but a router would work, too).

Who'd a thunk that pretty stuff was inside a power pole? Nice work. I was also wondering the same thing as Chris.

If you look at the first pic you will see the template I made to cut the segments. Tacked it to each piece, cut with band saw and then trimmed to shape on router table with a patern bit. Could be done with straighjt pieces and the outside shaped on bandsaw and inside done with router. I guess it's a toss up

David, I guess the plans provided a good template? I would think it might be a little tough to get a good shape building it up with pieces like that...I know I would mess it up anyway. I love that you are reusing the cedar...that is just great!
