Wood Lathe Listing (http://www.nealaddy.org/node/15)

Suggestions and particularly corrections are welcome. Any suggestions requiring me to go back through the entire list may or may not get acted on in a timely manner. ;)

Neal - that is quite the list!!! Thanks for taking the time for putting something like this together! Some of those models I didn't know anything about - just the name. Will make for a great reference!

Thanks again!

Neal,

Great lists. I have a couple of corrections and or additions to the comments section I might suggest. Being I am pretty familiar with the Nova line of lathes I would suggest under HP or comments section you list that at 220V the DVR is 2Hp. Also the with the Nova lathes they are both 24" between centers and 44" with one bed segment which is a very popular option. Also the Vega 2600 is 26" swing over the bed. I believe it is 24" over the banjo.

All this information was confirmed via manufactures websites.

Thanks for the info, folks. I've verified and corrected all three.

Alan, I see what happened on the Vega. I got my info from here:

http://www.vegawoodworking.com/2400%20Bowl%20Lathe.html

Looks like that page was originally for the 2400 but has been updated for the 2600. It still list swing as 24".

Some of the manufacturer's sites really need work! It was surprising how many did a poor job of listing their products specs. There were times I found myself digging into manuals just to find the MT, spindle thread size, etc.

Keep those corrections coming.

I believe the spindle thread on all Oneway's is M33-3.5

Harvey, thanks. I've corrected the Oneways. Looks like all but the 1640 and 1236SD are M33 - 3.5 RH. Not sure how I missed that the first time.

Alex, very cool! I hadn't heard of that lathe but I'll get it on the list.

The Nova 1624 is listed as VS but it is a belt change to change speeds. Is that what you meant by VS?

You have the lathes that Sears sells listed under "Craftsman", but the lathes that Harbor Freight sells listed under Harbor Freight instead of their proper brand name of Central Machinery. That could use some correction... Also you list the capacities instead of model #s on the Central Machinery lathes... I.E. 12x33-3/8 instead of 34706. Likewise the 34706 capacity listing by the MFG in the advertising material is short. It is actually a 12x36 (measured from end of thread of headstock, to end of tailstock with tailstock as far to the right as it goes).

Nice list, I wonder if a yes/no column for reverse capabilities would be helpful.

Minor correction on the Wilton.

The Wilton 99177 is indeed 3/4"x16 TPI. Also, the swing is stated as 4". However, that is not swing as it is commonly used. That is the spindle height over the bed. Even then, they rounded up. Swing, (spindle height * 2) = 7.75".

It does seem that the lathe is discontinued. I found a couple on the web, but not many. It looks like existing stock only.

Excellent resource. Thanks for doing that.
