In order to stroop a hollow plane blade, the Todd Herrli video (on making Hollows/Rounds) suggested using corrigated cardboard from cereal boxes - glued togeather to 1/8 or 1/4 in width.
So I glued a 1/4 wheel togeather, put it on the lathe and brought it to a 7 inch diameter, per below:

The next pic shows the wheel charged with green compound and how well the small hollow blade fits into it. It worked great!

And finally here is the hard felt wheel I have been using to stroop my plane blades/chisels for the last couple years.

So after using the wheel made of cereal boxes, I can't even tell the difference between it and the hard felt wheel (Although maybe if I were strooping a 2 inch plane blade via the cereal boxes I might notice a difference?). I suppose weather one uses leather, cereal boxes, plywood or hard felt--it doesn't really matter--kind of like oilstones and waterstones--both of which will give the same result.
