Have opportunity to buy Delta Unisaw locally. From photo, looks like new, appx 3-5 years old, green/red switch on the left. Has Besemeyer fence, 52 inch. Price $800.00

Question: Owner says the saw is wired for 120 volts.? One of the reasons (many) I wanted a Unisaw was for the 3 hp motor. Did the Unisaw come as a 120 volt model? Is this probably 1.5 hp. motor.
Can it/should it be converted to 220 volts.

thanks

The best and only truly accurate way to know for sure is to look at the motor plate, do you have access to the unisaw?

Art,
Delta made an 110v “Industrial” model cabinet saw that was/is NOT a Unisaw. All modern uni’s have either a 3 or 5hp motor. $800 for a true Unisaw is a good deal but make sure that it is indeed a Unisaw.
Can you post the photo? That might help.

Art,
I think it is a Delta hybrid TS like this one http://www.deltaportercable.com/Products/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=11152 and not a true Unisaw. I think Bruce is correct that true Unisaws made in the last few years always have a 3 or 5 hp motor IIRC. A Unisaw cannot run on 110V because it would draw too much current. The new hybrids with Bies fence can be had for $1150-$1200 (Delta 36-717B).

Here is a good summary of the Delta TS options... http://www.deltaportercable.com/Products/CategoryOverview.aspx?catPath=4272.4276.1609

If the seller could give you the model number, then you'd know for sure...!

If the saw is 3 to 5 years old on the front label it would say UNISAW I think Dick is right it is probably a Hybrid.

Art,

I have a saw I bought from CL that was listed as a "delta unisaw" I got the saw and "72" fence and overarm blade guard for 750.00, when I inquired about the saw some on here said it was not a unisaw. The saw was made in taiwan the model# is 36-729 and below some pic's of it I took this morning for you.........:D. It looks like there is some difference's in the one you are looking at and mine, I believe they were both probably built in taiwan because of the "industrial" tag! Also I notice your hand wheels look different than mine, mine has a square throat plate and has a 3hp motor. My saw is listed as a "Professional" cabinet saw and as met my expectations, besides it says in the manual that it is a "unisaw" see attached text copied from my manual.

MOTOR SPECIFICATIONS
The 36-729 Unisaw has a 240 volt single phase motor rated for three horsepower and 60 HZ alternating current.

The bottom line is you will have to look at the model number on the saw itself as well as the motor. My guess is that if the saw numbers confirm it was a uni. then the motor was probably replaced by some one without a 220 volt outlet. Is this a triple v belt motor/pully system? Just ask the owner for the model numbers on the saw cabinet and motor. Let him know you are serious about buying it.Best of luck.

Like others, I'm not aware of any 120 volt Unisaws.
My understanding was the recent ones were 240 volt and 3 to 5 HP.
The namplate should tell a lot.
And the one you pictured sure has a lot of rust on it. Not really a problem, as long as the innerds are good.
Make sure it isn't a hurricane saw. People are pulling out crap that was through floods and such and selling it off as something it isn't.
Remember: Buyer Beware!
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't true.

Turns out the saw is a USA made Unisaw...Limited edition commercial edition with Bessie and heavy extended side table Model Unisaw LE 36-844

220 volt, left tilt, full mobile base, prob made in 2002 or 2003, 3 hp
Excellent condition.....the stuff that looked like rust was sawdust from purpleheart

Not bad for 700 :D

Well, if the guy hadn’t said it was 110v there wouldn’t have been any confusion.

Agree with Art that not bad for $700 is an under-statement. You hit the jack-pot for that price as I have seen much older and worst condition sell used for more. I sold one for more.

Sarge..

I'm the proud owner of a right tilt 110 volt Uni saw. Delta made them in the early nineties, along with their "ORIGINAL" hybrid saw. Saw was rated for 1.5 HP on 110, so as to allow it to be plugged into a 110, 20 amp rect. Similar to "smoke and mirrors" they did on contractor's saw motor rating. HP jumped up when hooked up for 220.
