View Full Version : BIG THK Joinery - Best way to do it?

Confession: I am a new woodworker looking for experiences advice so as to not to mess up before I start.

See Photo below.

I want to build some shelves like the pic below. (neglect the other stuff).

These are big shelves, every member is 2” thk finished.

I want to use through tenons wherever possible. I like the “rustic” look of exposed tenons.

But what to do with the outer members (circles in white)? Dove tails would be awesome. But I do not want to hand saw dovetails. How would you do this joinery?

Do you have a better pic? The upper left looks like a miter but it is too fuzzy to tell.

Also you could do expose tenons for these as well. See the Morris Chair thread for some examples.

Box joints with wide fingers and sockets could go well with your exposed tenons. The corner joints in the picture look like mitered rabbets, but it's hard to tell.
