Here's my latest creation, a Christmas present for a friend. The wood is western maple and it's finished with Daly's Profin. Thanks for looking.

Very nice work, John.

I'm fortunate to live right around the corner from the Nakashima studios and have had the pleasure to both look at and fondle a lot of his work. The local art museum also has a small collection and Rago Auctions just over the Delaware River in NJ often features original pieces from many years ago in their "modern" events. (Pieces I could never afford, either...LOL) There is indeed a wonderful feeling that can come from letting the tree speak and I'm glad to see your gift to your friend in that style.

Thanks for the kind words Jim. Here's another photo. My digital camera has seen better days so I have to coax it into taking "good" photos.

There is no better artist than mother nature.
Nice job, it really shows off her work.

Very nice table. I love live edge furniture. Like Jim, I live not too far from the Nakashima studios, but I have never visited :(. One of these days I'll get there.

Rob, ya gotta do it. Best way is with one of the special tours arranged by the Michener Museum in Doylestown. You get to see "everything" rather than just a small subset of the property that is open on Saturday afternoons to the public.

I just looked Nakashima up on the web. I can certainly see where you got the inspiration.

I used a very low profile apron so it would be hidden as much as possible.

Very nice, John. His style is not the ticket in my rather casual country home but.. I have read his book and greatly admire him and his inspirational thoughts on his journey with wood. I too would like to visit his home and shop in Pennsylvania as my wife if from W. Pa. but has relatives in the eastern portion.

Sarge..

Thanks Jim. I didn't know the Michener Museum did things like that. I'll have to check it out.

The local "tour" listings are in the member mailings that go out from time to time. The Nakashima reading room at the Museum is also nice...you can touch and sit in some Conoid chairs, etc.
