    Building a Krenov Smoother

As promised, here is a pictorial for a Krenov Smoother. These pics were taken while I was building a bunch of planes for a forthcoming LN Tool Event. In all, I built 5 in a weekend, 2 smoothers and 3 block planes. That is the beauty of Krenov-style planes - they are quick. Notwithstanding this, they can offer world class performance.

Those look nice Derek. I would include the short iron and low-slung shape without an added tote as part of what makes a plane a Krenov. I believe the cross-pin predated the "traditional" abutment style plane by 1000 years.

Maybe the key is that it's simple, and is shaped to fit the user's preferences, which don't need to be Krenov's.
