    Sterling Silver ring engraving

"Can a fiber engrave sterling silver?"
    "Can a fiber engrave rings?"

    -Yup!-

A bit persnickety and tedious to set up- but probably easier than a Yeti!

These need more cleaning up and polishing but my customer takes care of that thankfully.

Question, having never tried to do a ring... how do you do the inside, tilt the rotary slightly and shoot past the top of the ring?

Yep, Wish I had a Ring rotary too...
Less material in the way and better holding of ring.
I did a couple of pieces of jewelry for Christmas, two bar necklaces, verse on one side, DOB in Roman numerals on opposite side. And a Rose gold necklace.

Rose gold I was worried about, engraved great, the bars were plated (thought stainless) and it was HARD to cut thru the plating. Customers were happy, so all was good.

Yup. The hard part is making sure the ring is running true. I just use the the first grooves in the chuck jaws, but it's easy to mis-align using the grooves too. The grooves are set back quite a bit but it really doesn't take a lot of angle to make sure the beam don't hit the jaws. To check for running true I unplug the rotary and just spin it. To do the outside I have one of those tapered felt wood mandrels the jewelry shops use to show customers rings, getting it and the ring on it to run true takes a minute. Once I'm okay with the alignment, I make sure the top of the ring is at the top, then plug the rotary in, and it's all zeroed out ready to go.

Also, I DON'T use the "ring engrave" function, just the regular rotary engrave. Just remember that the inside and outside engrave reverse to each other, so in the parameters you'll have to invert the Y axis for one or the other or the engraving will be done from right to left -siht ekiL-
