    lasers and heat exchanger

    Hello,

first time to post here. we are a small manufacturing shop. we have four lasers two of which we are running and 2 are not hooked up yet. This is a large site so you may have already covered this hoping for some direction to threads or ideas. Our problem is not exhausting but the make up air. we are in a 1550 sq ft pole barn and with 4 lasers going we will need some kind of heat ex-changer to bring in the make up air. We have a 500 watt fiber laser. 2 150 watt co2 lasers and 1 100 watt co2 laser. we currently are exhausting with 6 inch metal duct pipe on the 500 watt and the 100 watt. with the cold weather coming we will need to bring in that cold air and need some way of heating it.

There is a recent thread on exactly this. In the upper right corner of your screen you'll find a search box, try it and you'll find a lot of info to go through.

Ken Air to Air heat exchangers are pretty common in Minn as your building Codes did require at one time anyway.

They may be common here Bill but not easy to find sources on the internet. When I first looked at this site I thought I saw a post where you were asking if shops need help with their exhaust systems. Is that something you do? we were going to make one but getting rid of the condensation is the problem.

yes we are exhausting the fibre laser outside. works fine for now but once we start exhausting four lasers we will be moving a lot of air.

Retired. But free advice.... whatever Cfm you exhaust you need to Make up. In a pole barn you might have enough in filtration to take care of most of that, but it still needs to be heated. On restaurant kitchens they have the make up air system tied into the exhaust system so the MUA comes on only when needed and adds heat as needed. Air to air heat exchangers do that for you automatically. They are not cheap but should be available online. There are lots of HVAC contractors in your state.
