    Allan,

With the grain orientation the way it is, must have been a pretty good size chunk of lumber to begin with. What did you hollow it with?

The maple vase is spindle turned and hollowed end grain with a Monster articulated hollowing tool. Pre drilled 1 5/8" to bottom. The lid is cross grain and I plan to rework the bottom side. I am away from home for a while. Will post any changes.

My bad,.....the rings running straight up & down made me think it had a different orientation. I'm more use to seeing grain run more east to west than north/south like this.

David, that is a pretty piece of wood. I missed the fact that I used my home made steady rest when working the inside.

Thanks Allan. BTW, there was a Monster system listed in the classified forum last week that I should have jumped on. I have the Carter set-up that I like but would like to try-out an articulating system.
