Cure for curtains catching at joints in curtain rods?

What's a good way to stop curtains from catching when you try to move them over a joint in a curtain rod?

To keep curtains with rings from sticking, This Youtube video suggests attaching a tape measure along the top of the rod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm4e11WuDyE
For a curtain rod over a sunny window, I wonder how long glue or tape will keep keep the tape measure in place.

There is a product called "curtain slide tape" https://www.amazon.com/Curtain-Slide.../dp/B005NFC2W6 that's also advertised for rings.
Same question - would it stay stuck?

What can be done for the typical inexpensive white curtain rod that has a oblong cross section and is used for "pocket" type curtains that don't have rings? The joints in that type of rod tend to eat up the light sheer curtains that are often used with such a rod.

I never tried this although familiar with your problem. I'd try a short section of electrical shrink tubing over the intersection.....

we use black pipe or electrical conduit for curtain rods, cheap and easy to cut to size. glue the finial on with some silicone so its removable.

If the transitions bother you then the only fix is to get a continuous curtain rod and not a segmented one.

I have used it as intended and to cover my Festool vacuum hose. I don't see why it would not work in this application. The braided stuff comes in many colors and expands to an amazing size - within the limits indicated in the specs. Get the smallest diameter that will work. Worth a shot anyway - even for the oblong expandable rods. You would need to secure at the ends and in that case some kind of tape would be needed. They sell tape and I have used neoprene tape that sticks to itself. Hold extremely well. Might be difficult finding the right color.
