Cast Resin/Burl Blanks - Looking For a Source

I am looking for a source where I can purchase a cast resin/burl blank - perhaps 3"x3"x whatever length. I'm not interested in doing the casting work myself (yet). Anyone have a supplier they can recommend?
    Regards,

Woodworkers Emporium in Las Vegas has them but holy cow I couldn't believe the prices! I cast my own wood resin pieces but never thought of making blanks and selling them.... maybe I'm missing out!

Holy cow is right! As they are labor intensive to create, I figured that they would be expensive but not that expensive! Ouch!

Last I checked resins for casting were priced pretty high, at least those I was considering. That plus the effort, inventory, and marketing probably runs the price way up.

Glen, something is not clear. You said "purchase a cast resin/burl blank". Is this burl blank stabilized with resin or one embedding a piece of burl into a block of clear, colored resin?

Are you also considering a burl blank that is not cast in resin? All wood burl blanks may be more common and easier to find, for example I keep a supply of burls and burl blanks but not one with resin.

Also, you might be clearer on what "whatever length" means, for example if something as small as 3"x3"x3" is useful or if you have a minimum length in mind. I suspect you have something specific you want to turn.

I'm toying with the idea of turning a sphere from a colored resin blank with a burl embedded in it. Something similar to this:

I was hoping to get a blank long enough to get a couple of (approx.) 3" spheres from it. However, 3"x3"x3" blank would work as well.

Tom Stone at Beyond Wood Products makes what you're looking for.

I believe he will still do custom castings (color/size requested)

From what I am able to glean from Tom's website, he does not sell retail.

it looks like you can get what you're looking for from some of his dealers. ignore the big ones like woodcraft.

If you haven't already check out the face book turning and casting groups. I've seen several groups pop up over the last several months with casted burls blanks but I deleted them. FYI

I would use the "Contact Us" link to find out for sure, rather than just assuming.

He might custom make something for you and sell through a retailer.
