I loved the idea that this bookcase is derived from Jefferson's actual notes. Built essentially from PW #190 June 2011, but modified depth dimensions slightly so that the dovetails would align. Dimensions will vary depending on your dovetail layout. Similar to Jameel Abraham's case found here:

I also used a similar cyma reversa profile for the base and base molding.
The wood is cherry which I purchased from Steve Wall Lumber. As an aside, Wall lumber has always been awesome to deal with. I called and ordered this lumber from them, and requested that if they had any 13"+ wide cherry that they give me enough for the two bottom cases. They really came through with two 14" wide by 12' long boards. With those two boards, I was able to craft each case from one single board, which I think is super cool. Backs are 1/2" beaded shiplapped cherry.
Finish schedule:
- planed smooth
- tanned in the sun for a couple of hours
- BLO
- Dark Garnet Shellac 2lb cut. Sprayed one coat.
- Pratt and Lambert #38 Varnish thinned 1:1 with turpentine. Wiped on 6 coats.
- Liberon Walnut Wax applied with super fine Scotch Brite pad and buffed.
And yes, the dovetail work was tedious, but worth it. 168 in total, all hand cut.
Please don't hesitate with any questions. Thank you.
