    Help Identify Chisel Brand

    IMG_3400.jpgIMG_3402.jpgMorning Forum,

I impulse bought a box of tools antique tools yesterday and am having trouble identifying one of the chisels. There's a 20mm bevel edge chisel with a 20 stamped on the upper side of the blade as well as a makers mark that appears to be a man with a chisel blade on his back. I tried googling everything I could think of--man carrying, lifting, throwing, swinging, holding, pulling chisel blade--but turned up nothing. The other tools in the box included A Swan chisel, an A.E. Berg chisel, and a Miller Falls egg beater drill, so I assumed this mystery chisel was a fairly reputable maker that I just didn't recognize, but against all odds the Google has failed me. Help me fellow galoots, your my only hope.

Howdy Griffin and welcome to the Creek.

My guess is it is likely a European maker since it is 20mm.

Searched > European chisel maker's trademark < and found one for German makers:

    http://www.archivingindustry.com/cut...lermarks-1.pdf

This has descriptions on over 100 pages.

At the end there is this page:

There is another page for descriptions of items with a man.

The search found over 600,000 matches. I will let someone else wade through it all.

Thomas has got it right: It looks like old Beitelmann (Chisel man) trademark.
Take a look at this page: http://www.alte-beitel.de/bracht.html
