Interesting, But hard to believe they only get 20 ft.² out of each tree!
9800 square feet divided by 500 trees = 19.8 sq. Ft. Per tree harvested.
Cannot imagine that to be correct but perhaps they are very selective in the grain orientation, etc

Too much to do...Not enough time...life is too short!
Floor used for 3 games. Wonder what they did with it after the tournament?

I started with absolutely nothing. Now, thanks to years of hard work, careful planning, and perseverance, I find I still have most of it left.
I may have missed this, but how far in advance did they cut the wood for the floor. Certainly it had to "sit" for awhile. Too bad the final game was so lousy.
I'm just thinking of all the wasted maple syrup now. How many gallons of syrup could be had from 500 sugar maple trees!!!
I am thinking Jim is correct..I know the last time my Jayhawks won..😊..you could purchase sections of the flooring as a collectible.
If you convert the square feet to board feet at 4/4 thick, 19 square feet comes to 361 board foot per tree. Add back in the .8 that I rounded off and the overlap of tongue and groove and the yield is greater still. From the pictures of the logs I would say the yield wasn't bad, or is my math off?
Either way I thought it was a cool article.
