I acquired an older 2HP, 12” impeller Accura 02002 dust collector that seems a lot like the 2HP Harbor Freight collector, except the separator ring is helical as opposed to conical and with 6” inlet to impeller and separator. It looks like it’s intended to get the air spinning to help separate the dust. I want to put a Thien baffle on this collector and replace the top filter bag with a Wynn Nano filter (like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCXAHFXpkws).

Anyone have experience with this collector or putting a Thien baffle on a helical separation ring?

Would I be better off building a typical pre-separator (Thien baffle on trash can with 6” input/outlet) and just let the current separator do what it’s going to do, but still add the Wynn filter to it? Like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9Sn7g-vsf8 or more simply like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32a_esE5NCs It seems a pre-separator offers better protection, but at the sacrifice of taking up more space.

The dimensions of the collector ring is 20” OD, 10” height. Is that similar to the HF 2HP?

I’m having trouble uploading pictures from work…I’ll try again later when I get home if the inserted ones below don't work.

I appreciate your input and opinions!
