Need help on safety of woods

I recently picked up some scrap wood of Mesquite and Bodar (sp?) I make wooden toys and was told by another woodworker that those woods were harm and need to wear a make when sanding and I can only assume that the use of these woods should NOT be used in toys that are made for children. Would appreciate any information on this subject.

    Page on this here: http://www.wood-database.com/wood-ar...-and-toxicity/

By bodar, I'm guessing you mean bois d'arc (bow wood, or osage orange) --- given that both seem about as toxic as walnut, which no one would question, I'd say that w/ a non-toxic finish, on a toy not intended for chewing you should be fine w/ any reasonable parent of a child who isn't deathly allergic to stuff --- check w/ the CPSC and your lawyer for legal advice though.

I don't know that Mesquite presents much risk to a toddler.
The stuff is amazingly hard, I doubt they could gnaw much off.

I understand that in drought conditions, cattle get ill eating Mesquite "beans"
or seed pods. I've worked with the stuff and envy your access.

It's a joy to handle, with sharp hand tools.
If you're using power tools, make sure your DC is on,
the bags are clean and you're wearing a proper mask.

The dust is NASTY, and a respiratory irritant.

Should make excellent, heavy tools that will last near forever.
