If you're the handy type, you might consider a K40. $300 is pretty cheap to get into a CO2 based laser, and from what I've seen the K40 is miles better a 5w laser diode attached to a 3d printer.
If your laser is a newer model, it may work with Mac versions of Corel Draw and a Mac driver. I have an older Epilog Legend 24TT and it doesn't have a Mac driver. So I have a 32-bit install of...
You guys are essentially arguing over the definition of "motion control". You will never resolve your differences because you keep interpreting each other's statements in the context of your...
That explains a few things for me. No matter what I try, I haven't been able to cut 1/2" MDF on my 45w Epilog 24TT. If a 100W is underpowered for 1/2" wood, then it's no wonder.

Personally I've only got two feet, and I find typing with them to be challenging. I can't imagine trying to type with ten feet.
It's most likely a bug in the forum software. Sadly a lot of software written these days don't handle character data properly. See this link: ...
You convert to grayscale, not 1-bit?
Most of the tutorials on YT seem to emphasize converting the image into 1-bit and resampling the DPI so that the dithering doesn't end up with resonance...
The driver for the Epilog 24TT has a "Photograph" setting under Raster->"Basic Options". Does anyone know how this differs from Raster->"Basic Options"->"Clip Art"?
Do I need to convert images to...
Just change the DPI to 600 or whatever, and then click the checkbox "Maintain Original Size".
This will keep the actual pixel data the same and simply mark the image as a higher resolution. If...
I was just wondering if it still possible to purchase the rotary device for an Epilog Legend 24TT. I acquired a used engraver last year that did not come with a rotary and I'd like to try my hand at...
Would a fiber laser be able to remove the copper from a PCB blank?
I'm currently spray painting the blank PCBs, using a CO2 laser to remove the spray paint to expose the copper that needs to be...
I believe I have resolved this. I had to go into Corel's Print Preview application and uncheck the option "Send beziers and paths to driver".
Can someone check this file and see if it cuts ok on their laser? I'm trying to isolate if this is a software issue or a problem with my hardware.
Thanks,
Dave
I'm not familiar with the dialect of gcode used by the SmoothieBoard, but for my 3D printer that uses Marlin, I can set the current position using G92. So if I enter: G92 X0 Y0 then wherever the...
I'm putting my second-hand Epilog 24TT through its paces, and I've noticed something very strange. The laser does not seem to cut or fire when the laser is moving vertically from top to bottom. ...
So from the sounds of it, 1/4" is the best I'm going to be able to do reasonably. I would have just tried cutting a piece of scrap, but my exhaust fan has not arrived yet. I may end up just buying...
Is it possible to cut thicker materials by moving the focal point below the surface of the material being cut? From what I've read, it sounds like the focal point is typically on the surface of the...
The trial I downloaded won't even install on the XP mode VM. I wonder if it's XP that's not supported rather than W7. Going to have to dig up some 32-bit W7 installation CDs.
Thanks.
Thank you. I just got off the phone with Epilog, and they pretty much said the same thing. They sent me an email with the documentation for changing the spur gears, so it looks like this weekend...
The z-axis bed is un-level from left to right. There isn't enough compliance in the adjustment screws to get it level. Even if I crank the adjustment screws down tight to pull the right side up,...
