Thanks, John, Sam, and daryl.
John, you're schedule to demo at our club this summer. Looking forward to meeting you.
This one was well received on FB, so I thought I'd give you a look too. 6.5" tall by 6" wide, lacquer finish.
Prashun, this is not a glue up, it is a solid piece. If you look closely you can see the continuation of the grain from the sap wood to the heart wood. The straight line of the change from heart to...
Here's a plate that shows the grain pattern pretty well.

Thanks, David.
This is a nicely figured Ash natural edge bowl that I first dyed black with India ink. I then sanded off most of it and applied yellow dye, let dry, and then light blue dye. The black did a good job...
I use white paper table covering, bought a roll at a party supply store. I cut it to various sizes and crunch it up then flatten to give a cushion effect. Reusable.
Thanks, Robert. I've only ever used Transtint, so I can't comment on other brands. I've done probably over 100 pieces and I'm still using the same 3 two once bottles. The yellow is down to about 1/3...
Hi Harold. Thanks. Yes, I just paint the dye on, no rubbing. As far a the separation, I do dye over the red streaks in the box elder to make them permanent. The only other pieces that I created...
Thanks, Lamar. Happy turning to you.
Thanks, Robert. I enjoy seeing your works too. Always impressive.
Thanks, David. It's actually the bottom of this piece:

Robert and Tim - I use Transtint dye. I have just three colors, red, blue, and yellow. I generally put about five or ten drops into about two or three tablespoons of water and stir with a small...
Here are some of my dyed works completed earlier this year. The bark edge bowl on the stand is ash, the rest are box elder.
Hi Robert. No mystery, as I said it sat for years and was already dry throughout. So I trimmed all the branches, put it between centers, roughly rounded it out, and turned a tennon on the bottom end....
I had an old hicks yew (I think) stump sitting around for years and finally decided to do something with it. It's 5" x 5.5"finished with lacquer. I didn't take a before photo but the last pic is...
Hi, Richard. I used transtint dye mixed with water and apply with a small brush. When I want green I usually put on a coat of yellow first, let that dry, and then put on light coats of blue (drying...
A piece of holly that I dyed came out pretty nice.

Looking at the bark, my first thought was butternut. It doesn't look like tree of heaven to me and I don't think toh has dark heartwood.
Nice piece Dennis, are you planning a lid/finial?
Hi Dave, I didn't notice any change.
Hi John, I used the Verday metal reactive paints. I made burn lines then painted between them. I brushed on the brass as a base coat and let it dry, then I used bronze and copper and, while still...
Something like this kitchen utensil container 5.5"x7":

Mel --- On this piece I first dyed the whole thing yellow, after drying I went over the whole thing again with blue dye. Some areas turned dark green, some light green, and some remained almost...
