You might try some white plumber's tape on it. Like what you would use on a garden hose. Might take up some of the slack.

Very good, nice looking project. Question on the carbide tool holders. Do you like the round holder shanks, better than the square shanks? Nice taste on the lid.
Handle must be down to start and supported by your body. Bevel not that critical. Tool rest can be center or slightly above center. Move tool rest so you don't have the gouge hanging out to far....
Interesting, I have some small unfinished segmented vases I may do the same with. Thanks for showing your good work.
Packard has a lot of selections on unhanded tools, chances are they have what you are looking for. They have a web site packardwoodworks.
To each his own, but I have 4 lathes on computers, I don't ever disconnect. I have seen sparks fly out of the plug-ins box. I have wood dust in the air and maybe even finish fumes. Having arthritis...
Good buy, I have 3 or 4 out of the set. Sorby is a good brand. I would be proud to own them, I am of mine. In my opinion turning tools made in England or USA are the best.
That is one beautiful piece John, a keeper. I like what you did with the neck and like you said kept the spalting.
Good looking job. Not easy working with maple keeping all the joints tight like you did here. Your little solid piece at bottom is much smaller than what I do. Your joint alignment is very good. Your...
Just keep on doing what you are doing. Suggest making a smaller opening by doing just a little bit at a time to keep your comfort zone. All my hollowing is done with torque arms or hollowing setups,...
David, welcome to the world of segmentation. I use drawing software like Serif Draw Plus 8 to make my plans, 1/4" squares works also. Here is the bases of all segmented work. This formula here:...
Reads like you don't when to quit John K. lol.
I use Antique Minwax also, many times I will use a lacquer before I put it on to keep the wood less dark. Dale Nish showed me how he used it back in the mid eighties at Arrowmount.
Good idea John, knowing me with my arthritis I would drop that pin in the sawdust. Thanks for showing.
Showing 11 Stave music boxes with lids as of this date. I'm using a recess on the bottom of the lids after a fit on the box tops. With the recess, I can remount at any time and turn or replace the...
You made a good choice. Now you have to keep it feed. Maybe better than another car or boat to be taxed away. Congratulations.
I decided too post some photos of my chucks. The reason the Vicmarcs are my favorites are two fold. I like the points of where the chuck engages each time, I mark this point and when I go back and...
I have a couple of Nova chucks and Oneway chucks. My favorite is the Vicmarcs in The VM 100 and the VM 120. I can really get a hard bite with T-handles instead of the worm jaws and handle. The again...
I now have 15 staves boxes to finish and put lids on. One have already gone out the door to my daughter. I competed that one fully. Photo will show the boxes ready for further work I use a Club...
Very good, looks like you made the cover of Treeline catalog.
Nice looking project. I never could bring my self to sell my woodcarvings, just too much time and labor goes into it. I will sell all the woodturnings I can however.
Showing Hackberry vases which came off my land in Central KS. Wind and storm fell. I watch these grow after 35 years in the same location.

Merry Christmas everyone. I get to see part of my family today and that's great.
There is also cotton wood bark, and cypress knees. These woods are good for spirit images. I also enjoy doing relief carvings, I guess because I like to paint them. I have taken classes from...
Great John my Grandkids are grew up and are now young adults. Ok clue me in, what did you two make, hard to tell from photo.
