I use a roland vinyl cutter/plotter, it does an excellent job of cutting detailed dxf files (designs or letters)
hmm thats not what I had in mind , then i guess lay it in and sand off
yes you can apply something like this to a curved back, just use a thin material like a veneer and find a way to hold down each piece possibly use a contact cement
and apply pressure.
