I buy Minwax poly and make my own wipeon by thinning it approximately 50% with either mineral spirits or naphta. The naphta mixture seems to dry faster but does not keep as long.

I checked with Bill Noble and he indicated it "could" be a little on the weak side with the 1/4 hp motor if you had much leakage around your chuck. He did think it would work though.

Do you mean that he needs 1 1/4-7 nuts instead of 1 1/4-8 for a 1 1/4-8 headstock thread? IF so I am sure glad I haven't purchased mine yet.

I haven't been able to find any locally, but did find them on Grainger (dot) com on page 2705. I am sure there are a lot of other sources out there.
