NC Planing Mill historical marker

We were in Washington NC this weekend visiting relatives. While we were walking along the historic waterfront there, we stumbled across this cool plaque. The Moss Planing Mill was operated along the Pamlico/Tar River on the Washington Waterfront for almost 100 years. I guess it shut down when the City started rehabilitating its waterfront. There is a photo from 1915 at a local museum. Right below the plaque is a door from the "Beaufort Co. Iron Works" also located in Washington NC - the company still exists as a machining company, but it has been out of the foundry business for many years.

Anyway - I thought this was interesting!
