Not sure what wood is now???

I posted this a few weeks ago and was quit sure it was box elder. Not sure now. The leaves had all falling before it was cut down so unable to use them. It has a smell kind of like pumpkin when turning it. The ends of the log turn red after being cut for a day or two. Several members thought it was elm, not having any elm in our area it is a tree I've never even seen in person. What ever wood it is it sure is going to be pretty. Turns very well to.

Jack, that is some kinda crazy nice looking dunno wood. I can't wait to see the HF finished, I like what you're doing with the NE opening.

Dunno either but sue is pretty. The bark sure looks like BE.

Good looking wood, bowl and HF. I was going to guess elm as the bark sure does look like the elm we just cut.

The long, light colored stains down the bark are a sure sign of an elm.

I would guess Chinese Elm due to the yellowish color, which will fade away as it dries. It generally doesn't smell as bad as American Elm!

That looks like the Siberian Elm I have turned. The Siberian Elm gets lots of burls and it moves and warps like crazy as it dries.

Red Elm. Whats it smell like. How does it split. Did it have a lot of water in it? If its Elm answers wood be Bad smell, Splits difficult and yes it has a lot of water in it. Red Elm turns good most of the time. Burls are hard to turn, but worth it.

Thanks for the responses. It must be elm just never seen a elm tree in this area. It was one of the wettest woods I've turned in a while. Hope it dries OK.
