Walnut blanket chest with two drawers

Here's another project in an attempt to use up some of the Walnut scraps in the lumber rack. It's kind of strange construction in that carcass is composed of four frame and panel sections glued together – no corner posts like you see more typically. The bottom skirt is dovetail at the corners and joined to front/side styles via half lap joints. Simple but solid. I like the breadboard and construction for the top, but should've splurged by some wider stock for more symmetrical/uniform pattern on the top. I was able to re-sawn and book matched thinner stock for carcass panels. Spanish Cedar bottoms smells like a good cigar. I made a simple top stay from eyebolts and paracord. I kinda like it, but my wife thinks it's cheesy.

You had scraps and now you have a unique chest that looks nice and has unlimited uses! Now about your wifes "Cheezy" comment...................no comment! ;)

A blanket chest is on the list of to do’s for the new house. Thanks for the inspiration. Great use of material.

Thanks Ron. To be clear, my wife thinks just the paracord stay is cheesy-I guess she's OK with the chest overall, even though we don't have anywhere to put it. She's usually more diplomatic if she's not a fan of my projects (which used to happen a lot 35 years ago, but not so much now), somehow they never seemed to make it out of the garage and into the house -something about "still thinking about the right place ".
