Any man-made material for freehand routing?

Do any of you know of a man-made material (not MDF or plywood) that would be suitable for freehand routing?

Yes but it’s very expensive over about 13mm thickness. High density polyurethane foam is probably best, available at any sign supply.

Joe thank you, I will check this out.

Corian and presumably other solid surface materials can be routed by hand. I don't know about materials cost vs. something like thick PVC though.

HDPU, also known as HDU, is as versatile as you can get. It routs with ease, & if you like to hand-carve, it'll soon be your best friend. You can also sandblast it, with or without a faux woodgrain.
It's by no means cheap, but with minimal protection & a good quality paint, it's good for 30 years or more outdoors. Its biggest enemy? .... golf ball sized ( or larger) hail.
