Paint/lacquer over oil stain? Brand? Plywood. HVLP

I sanded this ply box and tried to stain it with a grey and a black and it looks like trash. This is a box my little kids will ride in on the front of a cargo bike.

So since a stain won’t work, I figure I’ll primer it in a few days once the stain dries. Then I thinking a white lacquer through an older 2 stage capspray hvlp. I could just thin down gloss ultra pure white behr latex.

what would be a could white to use? Latex? Lacquer? Something else?

As long as the oil based product(s) are cured, abrade and then use a quality primer followed by a durable paint, such as Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel or the BM equivalent.

Prime it with a rattle can of B*I*N, that will insure that the stain won't bleed through, then hit it with a rattle can of Krylon or Rustoleum.
