Mobile Base for the G0766

I just carried my new G0766 down the stairs to my basement. I lived! This thing is a beast. Now that I have to put it together it seems like the best time to figure out a mobile base.

Has anyone figured out a good commercial mobile base for the G0766 yet? I saw the other thread about about this and a theory about an easy mod for the Lift Lock and Roll, has anyone gone through with that mod? Any other mobile bases out there. I've been hunting and I'm not seeing much.

    Thanks for the help,
    Dave.

Congrats on your new 0766, Dave. I have no direct experience with a mobile base, but the other thread you mention is where I would have pointed you to investigate. I think Powermatic’s base could ne adapted to the 0766 with dome drilling of holes to attach it. Welcome to the GGMG!

Not sure just how mobile you are interested in. Because I butted mine next to a saw bench so that the head assy is down the bed a way, I wanted the ability to move it out if I ever needed to use the full bed length. I installed a robust (bad choice of term) leg shelf bolted to the frame and use an automotive floor jack to jockey it around. Hard point in the middle of the shelf. Not exactly a 4 wheel drive but it works on occasion. Keep the shelf loaded with log sections (storage and ballast) normally. Moving that thing fully assembled is not for the old, weak, or faint of heart.

See page 5 of photos on this groups main page for the base I made to move my G0766 around my shop until I found its home. If you need any info on how I made them let me know.

The shop built one is cool but I don't have the metal working tools and skills for the gauge of metal.

In the end I went with the Lift Lock and Roll for the Jet 1642

It was a pretty simple mod. Their Jet 1642 model does not use clips but instead used a clamping bar which really won't work on the G0766 due to the cross bar at the bottom. In the end all I need to do was clip the corner off the existing slot in the Lift Lock & Roll then drill two holes in the G0766 base to pass the bolts through. Took about 30 minutes to get both sides modded and installed. Works, great.

That is pretty cool, Dave! Thanks for sharing it with us!

Like Dave I went with the Lift-LocknRoll, see my post on this group almost a year ago for dimensions and modifications I made
